Bushmaster to manufacture the Magpul Masada

2 Attachment(s)
For those interested:

Bushmaster Firearms International, LLC (BFI) announced today that it has signed an exclusive license deal with Magpul Industries Corp. for the production, future development, and sales of Magpuls prototype MASADA weapon system.

The Bushmaster ACR (Adaptive Combat Rifle) will initially be offered in 5.56 NATO, available for law enforcement and civilian purchase second quarter 2008. This release will be followed by military ACR versions in the 3rd quarter of 2008.

Without government funding or outside influence of any kind, the Masada concept was developed from scratch in Boulder, Colorado by Magpuls Design Group. The Masada concept was first shown publicly at the 2007 Shot Show and its success prompted Magpul to spend a year redesigning the system for production.

The result is the ACR (Adaptive Combat Rifle) which keeps the fundamentals of the Masada concept with added advanced features such as firing pin block and true ambidextrous charging handle.

Among the ACRs key features are a gas piston operating system, tool-less quick change barrel, multi-adjustable folding stock with integrated storage, and backward compatibility with a number of AR15/M16 parts. Due to similar operating controls, user transition from the M16 series of weapons is easily facilitated with minimal re-training.

The Bushmaster ACR will initially be available in 3 SKUS: Standard Carbine with fixed stock, Entry Carbine with folding stock, and Special Purpose Rifle with Precision Rifle Stock. Live fire demonstration and test and evaluations beginning in the end of March to qualified law enforcement, federal government agencies.

That was my first thought! I'll bet that it is under cover because if the Boulderites new they would be picketing the company.

No kidding! For those of you who don't understand Boulder...not many of us do, it's like this...

If you can dream up some kind of 'idea', say you believe that Mozart's music causes your brain to become more intelligent just by listening to it. There may even be a 'study' that says 0.0001 of a study group showed an increase in brain capacity. You can market and sell that 'idea' in Boulder to an ever increasing following and become deified in the process. You can actually make a living at it.

Boulder: probably the home of the Xray glasses for sale on the back of comic books that let you see through peoples clothes.

I heard $1400 from an AR-crazy friend, but I can't back that up with a cite.

Re: Bushmaster to manufacture the Magpul Masada

1400 is Magpul's MSRP.

Hopefully mass production will bring it down a little, but probably not much, as the Sig 556 and Robinson XCR are similar and their price points are around 1200-1400 bucks.

Looks nice. Anyone know the weight of any of the sizes?

Re: Bushmaster to manufacture the Magpul Masada

Extremely light, I think about 6#...I just threw away the SGN with the review.

There's a recent trend with gas-piston uppers and rifles like the XCR and LWRC -- and now the Bushmasada (Mabuster?) These seem to combine the best of the AR and AK platforms while eliminating the minuses, not to mention covering every available surface with rails and vents. They certainly have the looks, but do they deliver? Should we be thinking about replacing our ARs and AKs?

The prices are somewhat high. I'm waiting for the Robinson XCR in .308. I got an e-mail from them saying that it is in development... no ETA.

If the Boulderites knew what these guys were cooking up there would have been student riots and a city councilman jack off somewhere making a motion to ban the design of weapons in the city limits. I love it when someone makes use of their constitutional rights.

I'll never replace my AKM.

Oh wait, I don't own one. Did you get that, Mr. Brown? I don't own any evil assault weapons. :no_ma:

Our quality ARs and AKs work well as intended...

We will see how well these XCRs, Masadas, etc. perform in combat and over time...and if they will be cost effective?

I am willing to wait and see...hopefully TPTB wouldn't make 'em go away before we have the chance.

Re: Bushmaster to manufacture the Magpul Masada

I saw a chick run an XCR (5.56) through an Appleseed course...500ish rounds over two days. It had well over 1000 rounds through it in about a week, with no cleaning and no hiccups. Accurate, too.

A 7.62MM would be nice, but I'd imagine it would be well over 1500, and kick like a mule.

7.62 kick like a mule?

Please explain that.

7.62MM is a full power cartridge, firing a 150gr bullet at about 2700fps. It kicks in a 11# M14, what do you think it will feel like in a 6# rifle?

Prom, I don't know exactly, some time last fall. The title of the article was something like "where in the world can you find a modern assault rifle?". I think it was by Fortier. It was definitely by the guy who was inbedded with the 3/7 Cav.

14.5" carbine weighs 6.7# unloaded.

What is your point about who owns it?

Thanks for the pdf. I guess they will be making a 16" for civilians? The 16" superlight M4 type carbines weight in at 6.25lbs.

No point, I just thought it was funny that they'd point that out. It's in the PDF. Thanks for being a PC hall monitor, though.:aetsch:

Scott,
It's a modular platform, so they have them in all kinds of flavors. I listed the 14.5" because it was the only one they listed the weight on.

Re: Bushmaster to manufacture the Magpul Masada

Very interesting. I'm buying a AR15 style carbine now, but if I hear some good things from people, will have to pick one of these up near the end of the year.
